Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong's current contract with Barcelona runs out next summer and has yet to agree an extension with the club.

Despite this, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are unconcerned about this as they believe everything is in place for the renewal and it's a matter of when will it happen not if.

Reportedly, what's stalling a final agreement is De Jong wanting to part with his agent , who he is signed with until 2026, so that he doesn't get a commission fee from the renewal.

The midfield maestro has been much maligned by Barca fans for his high salary but if he does reach an agreement on his extension, then he'll be taking a big salary reduction to stay.

Barcelona take his word for this as they feel the Dutch midfielder is being honest with his intention and he has said before that he wants to renew. It's also likely that they aren't super concerned as his position is one that would have plenty of cover in Marc Casado, Gavi, and Marc Bernal.

De Jong looked out of favor when he first came back from his injury, but he quickly established himself as a constant starter and Flick saw him and Pedri as his untouchables in the midfield last season.

It seems that Barcelona believe that they're in a win-win situation as they either retain a world class level player or they free up a huge salary that could help them comply with fair play and get them in the 1:1.
