Pitt is looking for a new athletic director as well as a new football coach.

Just as former Panthers coach Paul Chryst was being announced as Wisconsin’s new coach Wednesday night, Pittsburgh officials sent out a statement announcing AD Steve Pederson had been dismissed.

“Before beginning a robust national coaching search, Steve Pederson and I spoke this morning and we mutually agreed that this would be the appropriate time to make a change in athletic department leadership,” Pittsburgh chancellor Patrick Gallagher wrote in the statement.

So ends Pederson’s second stint as Pittsburgh AD. He served in the same role from 1996 to 2002, before leaving for Nebraska and ultimately returning in 2007.

Pittsburgh was rumored to be pursuing former Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano as head coach prior to Pederson’s dismissal.
