The wait is finally over. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Aaron Rodgers informed the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday that he will sign with them and attend mandatory minicamp next week.
"BREAKING: Aaron Rodgers has informed the Steelers he plans to sign a contract and attend mini camp next week, per sources," Dulac wrote on X.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero also added that Rodgers will fly to Pittsburgh on Friday and sign his deal.
"Renegade A-Rod: Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers informed the Steelers he’ll fly to Pittsburgh on Friday and sign before next week’s minicamp, sources tell The Insiders. Finally, a done deal: Rodgers, 41, will play his 21st NFL season in black and gold," Pelissero wrote.
Pelissero's colleague at the NFL Network, Ian Rapoport, reports that it is a one-year deal for Rodgers.
"It’ll be a 1-year deal. At long last, the four-time MVP lands in his best spot," Rapoport wrote on X.
Rodgers signing with the Steelers has been the expectation for months, as the Steelers have held off on acquiring other potential starting quarterbacks throughout the offseason. They've had their eyes on Rodgers and finally got a deal done with the four-time NFL MVP.
The saga is finally over, and Pittsburgh has their starting quarterback for the 2025 campaign. However, Steelers fans had mixed reactions to the breaking news on Thursday.
Here are some of the reactions on X from Steelers fans on the Rodgers signing:
"Go add a WR2. Defense is solid. If the Oline is good, the season will be fun." (LINK)
"Literally the last guy I wanted." (LINK)
"Fear for Tomlins winning season streak." (LINK)
"Excited. Not saying much but he’s far and away the best QB they’ve had since Ben. Can attack all areas of the field and his arm is just fine. He’s going to be able to run Arthur Smith’s offense a whole lot better than Russ and Fields could. Need a WR2 now." (LINK)
"Love it!! Worse case. We Suck and get a good pick for Qb next season." (LINK)
"Meh. Wanted to see what Rudolph could do." (LINK)
"Will take the hall of famer all day." (LINK)
We'll see how the Rodgers' Era plays out in the Steel City, but this signing does provide a much-needed jolt of excitement within the organization.
