The Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins have struck a blockbuster trade involving star cornerback Jalen Ramsey and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

The news comes from Ramsey himself, who announced the move on X, or at least his part of the trade. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers will give Ramsey a $1.5 million raise as part of the trade, which brings his total 2025 compensation up to $26.6 million.

After the initial compensation wasn't revealed, Schefter reported a shocking turn of events, with the Steelers sending Fitzpatrick to South Beach as part of the trade.

To say that was unexpected is an understatement. While Fitzpatrick is coming off a down year, he has been a staple on Pittsburgh's defense and an elite safety for years. Now, he goes back to where his career started in Miami.

The Dolphins announced that Ramsey was on the trade block prior to the 2025 NFL draft, and reports revealed that the Steelers had indeed checked in on the seven-time Pro Bowler.

Pittsburgh now adds Ramsey to a cornerbacks room that also includes Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay, both of whom are expected to start on the boundary.

That means Ramsey could factor in as the team's slot cornerback, where the Steelers had a question mark after seeing struggles at the position last year.

Beanie Bishop, who saw time as the lead slot cornerbacks during his rookie campaign, was penciled in to start inside in 2025.

Over the course of his career, Ramsey has seen 1,235 snaps in the slot, per Pro Football Focus.

He had 185 with Miami in 2024, and a career-high 325 snaps in 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams. In all, Ramsey has seen 122 snaps or more in five of his nine campaigns in the NFL.

There is also a chance Ramsey could factor in at safety, where some believe might be the best spot for him at this late stage in his career. In that scenario, Ramsey would free DeShon Elliot up to play in the slot.
