The Rams exceeded expectations in 2023, even with a first-round playoff exit.

Los Angeles was only projected to win seven games going into the season. Behind head coach Sean McVay and a bounce-back year from starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, the Rams finished with a 10-7 record.

Star wide receiver Cooper Kupp was in and out of the lineup with injuries, but breakout rookie WR Puka Nacua and second-year RB Kyren Williams stepped up in his absence. Nacua established himself as one of the most talented young players in the NFL today, setting rookie records for receptions (105) and receiving yards (1,486). Williams came out of nowhere to finish third in the NFL with 1,144 rushing yards despite missing five games.

The defense was, once again, anchored by future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald, but that will change in 2024. Donald retired this past offseason, leaving Los Angeles without one of the most dominant forces of all time.

How will the Rams respond this upcoming season? Take a look at a breakdown of their 2024 schedule, toughest matchups, and a record projection below.

Rams strength of schedule

The Rams have the 17th-toughest strength of schedule in the NFL for the 2024 season, per Sharp Football Analysis. That is just below the league average.

Toughest tests: Playing in the NFC West means the Rams automatically play the 49ers twice —no easy feat. Taking on the NFC North presents tough matchups against the Packers and Lions, the latter of which knocked Los Angeles out of the postseason last year. It doesn't get much better with the AFC East, with L.A. hosting the Bills and Dolphins at SoFi Stadium. A home game against the Eagles rounds out the biggest scheduling challenges the Rams will face this year.

Biggest breaks: As a product of their NFC West and AFC East opponents, the Rams will also have home and away games against the Cardinals and a road game against the Patriots. Add in the extra games against the Raiders and Saints, and those should at least be four easier wins for Los Angeles. The 50-50 matchups are the home and away games against the Seahawks, a home game against the Vikings, a road game against the Bears, and a road game against the Jets.

Bottom line: The Rams will be one of the hardest teams to predict in 2024. Was last year's explosive offense a fluke with breakout players like Nacua and Williams, or did McVay really find two of the most dynamic young weapons in the league? There will also be questions about how Los Angeles' defense will look without all the attention Donald draws on every play. It feels safe to bet on McVay's coaching genius and Stafford's leadership, though.

Record prediction: 10-7
