It's no secret that the New England Patriots were trying to move up from their pick in the second round of this year's NFL draft with the hopes of landing a wide receiver.

On Friday, former NFL executive Mike Lombardi shared who the Patriots were targeting before their AFC East rivals traded their pick to the defending Super Bowl champions.

"New England was in high-speed pursuit of [Xavier] Worthy," Lombardi said on "The Pat McAfee Show" on ESPN. "They wanted Worthy badly. They were making calls to get that pick, and Buffalo had them on the phone."

Instead, the Patriots ended up trading back from their pick in the second round and selecting Washington's Ja'Lynn Polk, who may still end up being a fine player. However, he's not the receiver that they wanted to pair Drake Maye with.
