The New England Patriots have been paying a lot of their own players this offseason, as Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf continue to put together a core group of players to build around.

On Wednesday, New England continued that trend by giving defensive lineman Davon Godchaux a two-year extension worth up to $21 million ($16.5 million guaranteed), according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Godchaux had been looking for a new deal but has been participating in training camp and even had his agents, Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, in for a session.

In three seasons with the Patriots, Godchaux has recorded 183 tackles (seven for loss), nine quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
