NFL fans, rejoice. The 2023 season is finally here, and with it comes the first NFL Sunday of the season.

Fans have already been treated to an NFL kickoff game featuring the Chiefs and Lions, but now, 28 more NFL teams will be in action for the first time on Sunday. That will create one of the most loaded NFL Sunday slates of the season, as 26 teams will play games in the early- and late-afternoon slots before a 14th game — a "Sunday Night Football" display — caps off the day.

NFL junkies will get a chance to watch a lot of football thanks to that schedule. And with both CBS and Fox airing games in the early and late time slots — 1 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. ET — fans will have more options than usual to watch in their home markets.

As is customary, CBS and Fox are getting as even a split as possible in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season. CBS will broadcast seven games across the two time slots while Fox will have the other six.

CBS is going to feature the Browns vs. Bengals game in the early slate. That seems to be a good choice given the intrigue around Joe Burrow and the AFC runner-up Bengals and the fact that Cleveland and Myles Garrett have given the quarterback trouble in recent seasons.

In the later window, the network will highlight the reigning NFC champion Eagles in a Super Bowl 52 rematch with Bill Belichick's Patriots. The Chargers vs. Dolphins matchup will also get some attention, largely thanks to its Justin Herbert vs. Tua Tagovailoa matchup, but that is currently playing second-fiddle to the Eagles.

Fox's coverage will focus on the 49ers and Steelers in a Brock Purdy vs. Kenny Pickett matchup in the early window before pivoting to the new-look Bears vs. Packers rivalry in the late window. The Justin Fields vs. Jordan Love battle could tell us a lot about which of those two teams could emerge as a wild-card contender in 2023. So, given that element and the size of the Packers' fan base, it's no surprise that Fox chose this matchup for its "America's Game of the Week" broadcast with Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen.
