The Detroit Lions released cornerback Cam Sutton as police continue to search for him stemming from a domestic violence charge.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for Sutton's arrest earlier in March on one count of domestic battery by strangulation after an alleged incident in Lutz, Fla., according to Dave Burkitt of the Detroit Free Press.

Sutton, 28, played all 17 regular season games and the Lions' lone playoff game this past season, his first year with the club after playing the previous six seasons with the Steelers.

Domestic battery by strangulation is a third degree felony in the state of Florida, and can be punishable by up to five years in prison.
