The New York Jets are once again entering a new era this offseason.
Previous head coach Robert Saleh was fired just over a month into the 2024 season, and Aaron Glenn was brought in this offseason to be the team's fourth head coach in the last decade.
Additionally, the team ended the Aaron Rodgers experiment after two unsuccessful seasons. Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury during his first game with the team in 2023 and then led the team to a 5-12 record in 2024.
Now, the team will enter the 2025 season with Glenn as the head coach and Justin Fields as the quarterback. Sure, the team may some intriguing additions this offseason, but it's hard to imagine the Jets being a contender or anything close in 2025.
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report recently identified the least desirable NFL trade destinations ahead of training camp. Unfortunately, the Jets made the list due to their constant restructuring and lack of recent success.
Regarding the Jets' situation, Kay offered the following:
The New York Jets are once again entering Year 1 of a new regime.
After parting ways with head coach Robert Saleh—whose term dragged on far too long before he was mercifully relieved of his duties just over a month into the 2024 campaign—the Jets brought in their fourth HC of the past decade.
While the Jets boast some quality incumbent skill-position talent in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall and an offensive line that looks improved following the first-round addition of Armand Membou, there are still more questions than answers surrounding the organization.
Until the Jets eventually prove to be competent under Woody Johnson's ownership, this team should be one that experienced NFL players try their best to avoid being traded to.
As Kay mentioned, the Jets have some intriguing pieces, but it's just hard to get excited until the team actually shows some improvement. With that being the case, it's not hard to imagine the team being a tough sell to veterans on the move who are hoping to compete.
Kay listed the Browns, Dolphins, Saints, and Giants are the other least desirable destinations for their own reasons. Regardless, those are generally teams you never want to be on a list with.
Being in the largest media market in the country is certainly a draw for players, but other than that, it's been tough sledding for the Jets. The team currently has the longest playoff drought in all major North American sports.
The Jets have not been to the playoffs since 2010 and it seems unlikely that trend will end in 2025. The Buffalo Bills are heavy favorites to win the AFC East in 2024, and the Patriots should be improved as well.
However, Glenn was a hot head coaching candidate and has the potential to finally turn the ship around for the Jets. If Glenn can get the team back to the playoffs, they likely won't be on lists like this one again.
