The New York Jets will have a much different-looking offense heading into the 2025 season. They released Aaron Rodgers in the offseason and opted for a more youthful option at quarterback. That is why they signed Justin Fields to a two-year deal, with the hopes that they can get the best out of him as a passer. If you look around the league, when the quarterback is a strong leader, that usually leads to positive outcomes. Fields is looking to take over as the leader of the offense and has already embraced that role. Fields said to reporters, “Guys were looking for a leader to step up on offense, so I was glad to receive that role.”

Fields has been in New York for a short time, but he fits in seamlessly. It helps that he already has chemistry with wide receiver Garrett Wilson from their days playing together at Ohio State. Many people around the Jets hope their new coaching staff can bring out the best in Fields. The Jets brought over Lions quarterback coach Tanner Engstrand to be their offensive coordinator. He has worked closely with Ben Johnson over the past few seasons and will likely have some good ideas to contribute to the Jets' creative offense.
Fields is at his best moving outside the pocket. He is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in football and should be given a longer leash in New York than he was given last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even if the Jets are a run-first offense, they must rely on Fields' arm at some point if they are going to be successful. Fields is saying all the right things so far this offseason, but he must produce on the field to show the Jets faithful they have the right guy.
