The New York Jets have begun their offseason training, marking the first time the entire team has come together in an official capacity. For first-time head coach Aaron Glenn, this is his first chance to see the roster he will be coaching. The Jets have struggled over the past decade. We have not seen them in the postseason since 2010, but many around the team think Glenn is the right coach to turn things around.

One reason for the optimism surrounding the Jets is their recent draft class. They selected three players in the top 80, all of whom are expected to make a significant impact in 2025. But the one rookie who has stood out most to Glenn is tight end Mason Taylor. He was selected in the second round (42nd overall) by the Jets as a player known for both pass catching and blocking. The latter is what has impressed Glenn thus far.

Glenn said in a recent press conference, “It’s the blocking that really gets me going…him understanding exactly what he is supposed to do, the position, the body language, the leverage, all those things I really love that.”

Taylor is likely to slot in as the Jets’ top tight end this season. You do not use a premium draft pick on a player without a clear idea of how to utilize him. While Taylor’s college production may not stand out, he has sure hands and can be a reliable security blanket for whoever is throwing him the ball in New York.

While many people expect the Jets’ turnaround to take time, finding productive young players can accelerate a rebuild. Taylor will make an impact during his rookie year in a variety of roles, and it will be interesting to see where he fits into the hierarchy of the Jets’ offense when it comes to a pass-catching role.
