Breece Hall was brutally honest on Wednesday.
The New York Jets' running back got to speak with reporters soon after James Cook and the Buffalo Bills had agreed to a four-year, $48 million extension. It also hasn't been long since the Rams signed Kyren Williams to a three-year, $33 million contract extension.
Hall is heading into the last year of his deal, making it logical to ask him what he thinks of those deals.
This is what he said, via The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt:
“They’ve done more than me. They’ve been in better situations. I feel like I’m just as talented as anyone but those two guys deserve their payday and got what they deserve.”

There's a lot there.
First, the subtle insult to the Jets: "They've been in better situations." Hall isn't necessarily wrong. Things have been a mess at times in the last few years for New York. It's still brutal honesty about a player still on the Jets.
There's also some humility there: "They've done more than me." Hall understands that he hasn't done as much on the field as either of them, which is at least solid self-reflection.
It's kind of him to share he thinks they got what they deserve. In this current RB marketplace, players at that position have to have each other's backs.

And yeah, Hall is certainly talented. He's the kind of player that a previous generation would've lifted up as an example of one of the best dual-threat RBs in the league.
Now, the Jets have already expressed potential interest in mixing in Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis more ahead of Hall's potential final season in town. They'd love to find their replacement before Hall is even gone.
In the meantime, all Hall can do is try to continue proving his worth on the field. That's how Williams and Cook got strong paydays. If Hall wants to be next, he has to put together a big season and show yet again that he can be a lead back, whether with the Jets or elsewhere.
