The New York Giants are coming off a dismal last-place season, going 3-14 in the NFC East. That led to some big personnel changes, save for their decision to keep the combination of coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen to give them one last shot to get the franchise back on the winning track.
The Giants will be under pressure to be the latest NFC East team to have a big turnaround, following the Commanders' lead. That's despite a rebooted QB situation and some lingering defensive issues. Still, there should be a lot more optimism from positive offseason action through free agency and the draft.
How much more improved can the Giants be this season? Here's taking an early look.

Giants strength of schedule
The Giants unfortunately have the toughest schedule in the NFL based on the combined winning percentage (.571) of its 14 opponents. They face 10 winning teams and 10 playoff teams, making it extra challenging to dig themselves out of the basement.
How did a last-place team get such a tough schedule? It starts with the divisional matchups, which feature four games against the teams in the NFC championship game last year. The Cowboys aren't exactly pushovers either. New York's rotational division matchups against the AFC West and NFC North do it few favors, too, as both divisions feature four teams with legitimate playoff aspirations.
Toughest tests: The Eagles and Commanders twice stands out, of course, with a lot on the line in division games. The Cowboys also were in front of the Giants last season. Getting the entire AFC West and NFC North is brutal, with five more playoff teams represented. Seeing the Chiefs and 49ers at home also piles on to the mess.
Biggest breaks: The Giants have some winnable road games against the Raiders, Patriots, and Saints. Those will determine just how much better they can be than a three-win team.
Giants record prediction
- Over/under win total: 5.5 (per BetMGM)
Bottom line: The Giants added some more exciting youngsters to Malik Nabers, including quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo. They do look better offensively, but it's uncertain whether Dart can start at some point over two more newcomer QBs, veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
Abdul Carter will rev up the defense, but the upgrade won't be enough to lift an offense under transition, leaving Daboll and Schoen on the hottest of seats.
Record prediction: 6-11
