The New York Giants’ quarterback room looks deeper than it has in years. But with final roster cuts looming and teams required to trim down to 53 players, someone has to be the odd man out.

Right now, Russell Wilson is locked in as the starter, with veteran Jameis Winston, rookie Jaxson Dart, and Tommy DeVito all behind him. While the order of QB2 and QB3 may shift, it still leaves one quarterback on the outside looking in.

That player is expected to be Tommy DeVito, according to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox.

“Russell Wilson has essentially been entrenched as the starter since signing this offseason, and New York also added a high-end backup in Jameis Winston. Rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart isn’t going anywhere, so DeVito will almost certainly be the odd man out,” Knox wrote.

“Teams in need of quarterback depth should be on notice. DeVito never threatened to become a full-time starter for the Giants. However, he started eight games over the past two seasons and played at a respectable level (88.4 QB rating) for a bridge quarterback.

“The 27-year-old has long-term backup potential. While the Giants may hope to stash him on their practice squad, it’d be surprising to see him clear waivers.”

DeVito earned respect in his eight starts, going 3-5 and becoming something of a viral sensation while the Giants were dealing with quarterback injuries. His New Jersey roots and Italian-American background made him a cult figure with fans, but despite that, he remains the logical cut candidate.

“This is simply a numbers crunch, as DeVito was always a long shot to make the 53-man roster,” CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr wrote.

Considering he went undrafted in 2023 and managed to become a respectable starter, DeVito’s rise has been impressive. And if the Giants do cut him, as Knox suggested, it likely won’t be long before another team brings him in.
