For better or worse, the Saints were ready to head into the 2025 season with Derek Carr as their starting quarterback.

Now, that may no longer be an option following the news of Carr's serious shoulder injury.

That means New Orleans needs to find a new answer at QB. And it may come from a previously unplanned place.

With Carr healthy, the expectation was that the Saints would use the No. 9 overall pick in this month's draft on a player at a different position.

With Carr hurt, social media and NFL analysts have all pointed to one name: Shedeur Sanders.

The Colorado QB, who threw 37 touchdowns in an impressive 2024 season, is now very much in play for New Orleans.

Sanders may not slide to No. 9, but maybe that means the Saints would consider moving up to get him.

The Saints do have Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener, two young quarterbacks, who could start in the interim with Carr out.

No matter who the Saints get, it may be an uphill climb to even sniff a playoff spot.

There's a case to be made that New Orleans should just stand pat, deal with the bad record and try using next year's draft on a QB.

But if the Saints are feeling antsy, their top-10 pick is very much an option to find a quarterback.
