The New England Patriots have a crowded wide receiver room, with a limited number of spots open for the regular season. With seven wideouts making the cut in 2024, Kayshon Boutte is making sure that he’s toward the top of the group that makes the cut this year.
Boutte had a big sophomore season last year, finishing with 589 receiving yards, good for the second most among Patriots wide receivers.
The 23-year-old has taken over training camp to begin 2025, making his presence known with each passing day. New England brought in a group of new competition to the wide receiver room this offseason, and Boutte is proving that he deserves to maintain a big role.
What a throw and catch from Drake Maye to Kayshon Boutte against Marshon Lattimore in yesterday’s joint practice.

All reports said Maye was carving up the Commanders’ defense all day. I can’t wait to see this new offense in action 👀 pic.twitter.com/s4l1nMt8Ai
Having an extra year with Drake Maye has proved to be huge in Boutte setting himself apart this year, relying on the rapport he built with his quarterback to consistently make splash plays.
Coming into his third season, Boutte’s main goal was to be in great shape. After a successful year by his standards, the goal was to not slip back at all, and just be able to continue to grow.
With no roles solidified with any of the wide receivers yet, Boutte knows every opportunity he gets, both in practice and the preseason, to showcase his skills and reliability needs to be taken advantage of.
Kayshon Boutte on what’s been communicated to him from Vrabel and McDaniels about his opportunity here in New England:

“No matter where you’re at, you gotta work everywhere, honestly. So whether I’m here or another place, just work every day.”

Being surrounded by names like former first-team All-Pro Stefon Diggs and flashy rookie Kyle Williams has helped to light a fire under Boutte, making him work harder than ever before.
Boutte knows what it takes to earn his spot, having to battle through an ankle injury suffered in college through the first two years of his career, and is set on not losing his spot near the top of the depth chart anytime soon.
