The Miami Dolphins have been looking to move on from Jalen Ramsey since the offseason began, but they have yet to find a trade partner. While there have been ongoing discussions involving the veteran cornerback, one major obstacle remains: his contract.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported.

Ramsey is an elite cornerback and brings valuable veteran leadership. However, the financial burden of his deal has been a sticking point. Now that June 1 has passed, a trade could become more financially viable due to cap considerations.

“ESPN's Adam Schefter reports ‘there's more interest in Jalen Ramsey than people realize.’ Trade could be announced in June, potentially. Schefter notes if trade happens before, it wouldn't be processed until after June 1 for cap reasons,” Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson posted.

Even though it’s now after June 1, no trade has materialized—leaving many wondering what’s causing the delay. One likely explanation is that teams aren’t offering significant assets, which could be why the Dolphins are holding firm. Another key reason, according to Fowler, is that interested teams are hesitant about the $24 million guaranteed to Ramsey this season.

“But a lot of these teams are spooked by the money because of the $24 million guaranteed. The Rams are sort of waiting it out. It's really interesting. I do think it'll get done, I just don't know what it's going to look like financially. But I know he's supposed to get traded in somewhat short order, so I think in the next week or two I could see it coming together,” Fowler said.

Whatever the case may be, it appears a deal could still be weeks away. Unless the Dolphins agree to absorb part of Ramsey’s contract, teams may remain hesitant to make a move.
