The Los Angeles Chargers are taking advantage of a player the Miami Dolphins recently moved on from, seeing him as a fit for their defensive line, which could use some help.
On Thursday, the team officially signed free-agent defensive lineman Teair Tart (pronounced Tee-Air) just two days after he was released by the Miami Dolphins. The Chargers brought in the 6-foot-2, 304-pound Tart right away for a workout.
He will join a rotation that is likely to include Morgan Fox, Otito Ogbinnia, Poona Ford, Scott Matlock and fourth-round pick Justin Eboigbe. As long as Tart is in shape and motivated, he stands to earn major snaps on this defense.
Teair Tart is entering his fifth year in the NFL
Tart went undrafted out of Florida International in 2020 and has spent the bulk of his professional career with the Tennessee Titans. They released him last December and he was claimed by the Houston Texans. The Dolphins signed him to a deal this spring but things did not work out for him there.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said it was "just one of those situations where you can see that from a scheme standpoint it’s not totally a fit", when asked about the sudden release of Tart.
For his career, Tart has 79 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one sack and one fumble recovery. To make room for him on the 90-man roster, the team parted ways with undrafted free-agent safety Jayln Phillips.
