The Fourth of July is a time for celebration in America.
Red, white and blue. Hot dogs (and eating contests). And, of course, fireworks.
Every year, roughly 10,000 Americans are injured in firework accidents - with roughly 75 percent of those coming around the July 4th holiday.
Unfortunately, Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris was among those injured this year.
On Thursday, NFL agent Doug Hendrickson provided a positive update on his client via Adam Schefter:
"Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”
In early March, Los Angeles signed Harris, a former Pittsburgh Steeler, to a one-year, $9.25 million deal.
The former first-round pick has played four seasons in the NFL - with shockingly similar numbers each year.
Harris has run for between 1,034-1,043 yards each of the past three years and has scored 7, 8 and 6 touchdowns during those seasons while averaging 3.8, 4.1 and 4.0 yards per carry.
His career longs in each of his four seasons? 37, 36, 25 and 36 yards.
So, it's safe to assume the Chargers know exactly what they are getting.
Assuming Harris is fully healthy - with clear vision - entering the season, he represents a crucial signing for a team looking to elevate its run game from a season ago.
