The Las Vegas Raiders are currently holding a competition for the starting cornerback spot in training camp, and head coach Pete Carroll provided a major update on the position battle.
According to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com, Carroll stated that third-round rookie Darien Porter has been taking first-team reps in training camp.
"Darien Porter has been rolling with the first-team in training camp, and Pete Carroll made it clear again today he’s not scared to play his rookies," Edwards wrote on X.
Porter was selected with the No.68 pick in April's draft, and it seems like he is impressing at camp thus far.
The 24-year-old had a fantastic 2024 season with Iowa State, snagging three interceptions and allowing just a 29.4% completion rate and a 4.7 passer rating when targeted.
With Porter taking snaps with the starters to begin camp, it's safe to assume that he has a high chance of being one of the Raiders' starting boundary corners in Week 1. That means Jakorian Bennett and Eric Stokes will be fighting for the other starting spot.
A lot can change from now until September 7, when Las Vegas travels to Foxborough to square off against the New England Patriots to open the 2025 campaign. However, as of now, it looks like Porter will play a key role in Patrick Graham's defense in his rookie year.
