The Jaguars have plenty of reason to be optimistic about the 2025 NFL season. The anticipation among Jags fans should begin to reach a boiling point during Jacksonville's three-game preseason, its first few exhibitions under new head coach Liam Coen.
The former offensive coordinator, who led Tampa Bay to a 10-7 season in 2024, now has a chance to right the ship for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars. It won't hurt to have Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter — two of the most exciting young players in the game — running routes for TLaw.
BTJ made the Pro Bowl and finished fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2024. Hunter, who won the Heisman as Colorado's stud two-way star, will open his rookie season near the top of the odds boards for Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year. How can you not be excited about these two young stars?
Of course, a lot hinges on Lawrence's health (he played only 10 games in 2024) and the Jags' ability to improve defensively (Jacksonville allowed the second-most total yards in the NFL last season). The Jags will also need to figure out which of Tank Bigsby, Travis Etienne Jr. and rookie Bhayshul Tuten will lead their running back room.
Coen and his top coordinators Grant Udinski (offensive) and Anthony Campanile (defensive) should be up to the test. Coen and Udinski have both overseen career years from QBs Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, while Campanile comes off a strong year as linebackers coach for an underrated Packers defense.
