The quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones remains a top priority for the Colts as they enter their final two weeks of preseason before electing a starter ahead of Sept. 7’s regular season opener.

Both Saturday’s clash with the Packers and next week's preseason finale against the Bengals are of utmost importance in evaluating and eventually selecting a Week 1 starter. Head coach Shane Stiechen spoke about the plan for the matchup with Green Bay earlier this week.

“Daniel Jones will start this game," Colts head coach Shane Steichen told the media. "He'll play a couple series, and then Anthony (Richardson Sr.) will finish the first half... Starters will play about a quarter.”

Steichen made no tweaks to what the plan had been all along, even after the snaps between Richardson and Jones were heavily skewed after Richardson suffered a dislocated right pinkie finger against the Ravens.

The original plan had been for Richardson to play around a quarter with Jones finishing the first half, with both guys swapping roles for the Packers. Even after Jones got the majority of the first half in Baltimore, Indy is not diverting from its original plan.

Steichen said he would ideally like to have a starter identified “sooner rather than later” to allow that guy to get the bulk of the reps in next Saturday’s preseason finale against the Bengals.
