It’s no secret that Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. has not lived up to the hype of being a former top-five draft choice.
Richardson’s career has gotten off to a slow start, mostly due to his lack of consistent availability. As a rookie, Richardson played in just four games before a shoulder injury ended his season. In 2024, Richardson went through a growing up period in which he was benched for multiple games.
All the missed time is coming back to bite him as he enters his third year. Ex-NFL wide receiver Andrew Hawkins discussed why Richardson is failing to reach his full potential on The Rich Eisen Show.
Hawkins thinks the Colts are likely to be leaning towards Daniel Jones for the 2025 season.
“At some point it’s your responsibility to protect yourself,” Hawkins said about Richardson’s injury-prone play style. “You have to be able to play the position in a way that prevents you from losing time otherwise we can’t build around you as a starting quarterback.”
Through two full seasons, Richardson has been available for just 15 of a possible 34 games. That’s less than half.
All the time off the field has taken away the opportunity for Richardson to realize his potential. The mental reps just aren’t getting the job done.
“For Anthony Richardson, I don’t know if the mental reps he’s had to date is enough to unlock his potential.”
Time is running out for Richardson to stick as the franchise guy in Indianapolis. Clearly, some don’t believe he has the make up in order to work out for the Colts.
