Injuries have run through the Colts’ secondary like a plague at Grand Park. Both JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones remain sidelined with hamstring injuries, Nick Cross is nursing a hip flexor injury and rookie Justin Walley has torn his ACL.
But Indy did receive a positive update on the knee injury Kenny Moore II suffered in practice Sunday night.
Per ESPN’s Stephen Holder, the details are still not clear, but early indications suggest Moore II avoided a serious injury. No timetable for recovery yet, but a sigh of relief nonetheless for the Colts defense, which can’t afford any more injuries.
Losing any starter would be a big loss, but losing their nickel cornerback would be devastating to the Colts’ defense, especially with younger players currently unavailable. Moore II has been a staple of Indy’s secondary since his arrival in 2017.
The 29-year-old has started 104 games for the Colts and played under four different defensive coordinators, a testament to his value and ability to impact games from the slot. Without him, the defense looks completely different.
While it will be a drastically different secondary with a new scheme and fresh faces, Moore II was one of the constants that remained. As of right now, it sounds like he’ll be back on the field in time for the start of the season.
