Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are competing for one spot.
Both want to be the Indianapolis Colts' starting quarterback when Week 1 arrives. The other will begrudgingly be the backup.
So far, though, there's no clear-cut favorite.
Head coach Shane Steichen recently called the race "neck and neck," and the Colts' unofficial depth chart released this week emphasized that.
In the QB1 category, this is how Richardson and Jones were listed:
Daniel Jones OR Anthony Richardson Sr.
That really clears things up.

Richardson is the former No. 4 overall pick entering his third season. He's a tantalizing talent, with a big arm and great running ability. He also gets hurt too much and is coming off a season in which he completed a ghastly 47% of his passes.
Then you've got Jones, who was once a hyped top-10 pick for the Giants but never reached his potential. He was cut midway through last season and rounded out the year with the Vikings, learning but not playing.
The Colts haven't had a clean QB solution since Andrew Luck's shock retirement. They've tried out different veterans to no real breakthrough. Richardson was supposed to finally be the savior in the draft, but he's created as many questions as answers.

If neither quarterback stands out, the Colts may very well be on track to take a new guy in the 2026 NFL Draft.
But hope isn't lost yet for Richardson or Jones. Both are talented. One could win the job and run with it and make themselves the QB of the future in Indianapolis.
With a month until the season, though, no one knows what's going to happen. It's still quite the mystery in Indy.
