Are we at the tail end of the Anthony Richardson experiment in Indianapolis?

The offseason acquisitions of Daniel Jones and Riley Leonard signaled the Colts' front office still lacked faith in the young signal-caller, and he's struggled to prove his worth.

In the team's first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, Richardson failed to account for David Ojabo off the edge as a free rusher and was subsequently injured and removed from the contest.

Richardson has a minor finger injury and will likely return to action in a few weeks. But the isolated play was a microcosm of Richardson's inability to harness his elite athletic traits and progress as a quarterback.

On a recent episode of "The Herd," guest host Jason Mcintyre ripped Richardson's struggles and suggested his days in the NFL could be numbered.

"Anthony, you better get your Canadian passport, because you're going to be playing in the CFL pretty soon," Mcintyre said. "That's the negative side of Anthony Richardson. Here we are three years after he got drafted, and he's still making these bad mistakes. No adjustment at the line of scrimmage, and he gets decked. This is not good for his starting chances in Week 1."

Richardson is still 23 and is a prototypical athlete. If Indianapolis decides to move on, there will be multiple domestic suitors for his services.

His physical build will only keep him around so long, though, and if he can't transform into even an adequate pocket passer, his status in the NFL in the next few years will be in grave danger.

Time is running out for Richardson in Indianapolis. He looks nowhere close to being the face of a franchise.
