Houston Texans safety and new acquisition C.J. Gardner-Johnson was injured in practice Thursday.

But the extent of that injury has been the center of a debate.

Initially, several reports came out expressing that Gardner-Johnson had suffered a torn ACL.

Shortly thereafter, however, NFL insiders Adam Schefter Ian Rapoport indicated that Gardner-Johnson's ACL remained intact, but that further tests were needed to determine the extent of the issue.

Houston acquired Gardner-Johnson in a March trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, giving up former first-round pick Kenyon Green, a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick swap.

Following the trade, Gardner-Johnson expressed feelings that the Eagles didn't support his intense approach.

That intensity led to a postseason practice fight for which Gardner- Johnson felt he was unfairly blamed.

"We had a little scrum at practice," Gardner-Johnson said. "Nothing, just offense versus defense, but who's the culprit of it? Me. I guess, because we're competing. Well, you tell me the period is live. You're telling us not to compete during a live period, but it's a live period, and we're getting ready for a playoff game?"

His arrival in Houston was viewed as a potential fresh start for the hard-hitting, trash-talking defensive back.

Last season, he registered 59 tackles and six interceptions, helping the Eagles win a Super Bowl.
