One of the worst-kept secrets around the NFL is that Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts may not be Atlanta Falcons tight end much longer. Pitts is set to play out the fifth year of his rookie contract in Atlanta this fall, but that’s only if the Falcons don’t find a suitor before then. Although there’s some skepticism around the league that the Falcons will be able to find the right offer ahead of the season, there are still a handful of teams who are being linked as possible trade partners.

One of those teams is the Green Bay Packers, who are seemingly in the mix for every pass-catcher around the NFL, despite the fact they already have a deep crop of young receivers. In time, Green Bay won’t be able to keep all of those young pass catchers, and that’s potentially what opens the door for the Packers to inquire about Pitts.

“A starting tight end isn't a burning need for the Packers, especially with Tucker Kraft emerging as a force at the position. But adding a new dimension to the offense, which Pitts would do, could be a compelling avenue for the Packers to try and get on the Detroit Lions' and Minnesota Vikings' level in the NFC North,” according to Fox Sports.

“In a potential trade, the Packers could send one of their young wide receivers (e.g. Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks) and a late-round pick to the Falcons, should they choose to refrain from dealing a future second-round pick. Such a move would also balance out Green Bay's wide receiver room in relation to its tight end room.”

Dating back to late last season, it’s seemed as if Dontayvion Wicks and Romeo Doubs were the two expendable options in Green Bay’s wide receiver room, despite the fact they ranked 1st and 3rd on the team in targets last season. That was further cemented after the Packers used their 23rd and 87th picks in the 2025 NFL Draft on Texas’ Matthew Golden and TCU’s Savion Williams.

As for the Falcons, swapping out Pitts for one of the Packers wide receivers would create a gaping hole at tight end, but it would help fill out a receiving corps that lacks much juice beyond Drake London. Assuming Wicks or Doubs were sent to Atlanta, it’s likely that either of those two would supplant Darnell Mooney as Michael Penix’s preferred second option this season.
