Aaron Rodgers may not be on an NFL roster right now — but he’s clearly thinking about how it could all end.
The 41-year-old quarterback appeared on the You Never Know podcast this week and admitted he’d “probably” sign a one-day contract to retire with the Green Bay Packers if the opportunity presented itself.
“There’s a lot of love for me and how I feel about the team,” Rodgers said. “If I do or I don’t [retire as a Packer], I don’t think it should make a difference. I’m not sure yet. If they approached me about it, I probably would.”
Rodgers spent 18 seasons with the Packers, winning four MVPs and a Super Bowl in the 2010 season. After being traded to the New York Jets in 2023, Rodgers missed nearly the entire year with a torn Achilles before returning in 2024. He played the full season but went just 5-12, and the Jets released him earlier this offseason.
Since then, Rodgers has remained unsigned and largely silent about his NFL future. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been heavily rumored as a potential landing spot, especially with their uncertainty at quarterback — but Rodgers has yet to commit to any team.
Now, we might have a clearer picture why.

In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rodgers spoke candidly about the emotional toll his personal life has taken over the past year.
“I've figured it out the last year when I've been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,” Rodgers said.
The comment suggests that Rodgers is navigating far more than football right now, and that his focus may be off the field for the time being.
Still, the future Hall of Famer isn’t ruling out one final moment with the team that made him a legend. Whether or not he plays another down, a ceremonial return to Green Bay seems more likely than ever.
