After winning the NFC North last season, the feel-good Lions enter the upcoming NFL season poised to contend for the franchise's elusive first Super Bowl.
Dan Campbell's battle-tested group won't catch anyone by surprise this year: The Lions are certainly one of the best teams in the NFL, on the heels of back-to-back playoff appearances. And the young core enters this year even hungrier, after an early playoff exit last season.
Quarterback Jared Goff has a host of weapons to work with on offense, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, two of the best young skill players in the league. They helped form the league's highest-scoring offense last season, at 33.2 points per game.
And on defense, an injury-ravaged unit will be replenished. Namely, the impending return of star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson figures to galvanize Detroit on the defensive side of the ball. Hutchinson had 7.5 sacks in just five games last year before suffering a season-ending leg injury. His return is certainly something to monitor throughout the preseason.

Three preseason games will be broadcast locally on Fox 2 Detroit (WJBK), with Jason Benetti (play-by-play), T.J. Lang (analyst), and Dannie Rogers (sideline reporter) calling the action.
The Lions will also play in the Hall of Fame Game, which will air nationally on NBC.
