As Detroit Lions players begin filing in to training camp, the team announced that several players have been added to injury lists.
According to the team on Thursday, offensive tackle Taylor Decker, cornerback Khalil Dorsey, rookie guard Miles Frazier, defensive lineman Alim McNeill, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, and defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo were added to the active/physically unable to perform list.
In addition, defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.
The difference between the active and reserve versions of the PUP list are players placed on the reserve cannot play in the preseason and must sit out the first four games of the regular season.
Players on the active/PUP list can be activated at any time.
Also, defensive lineman Josh Paschal and cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver were added to the non-football injury list, and running back Anthon Tyus was waived with a non-football illness designation.
Onwuzurike and Decker are definitely the biggest surprises, as we weren't aware of any injury either player was dealing with. We do know that Onwuzurike has had issues with his back in the past, so hopefully it's not related to that.
Onwuzurike's absence is particularly troubling because the Lions might not have McNeill to start the season after he tore his ACL in December.
That said, McNeill being placed on the active/PUP list is good news for his chances of being ready at the start of the season, and the same goes for Rodriguez, who is coming back from a torn ACL, as well.
