The playoff loss to the Washington Commanders is one offensive lineman Graham Glasgow and the Detroit Lions would like to forget. The Lions had Super Bowl aspirations in 2024 and a deep playoff run was expected.
Instead, Detroit was one-and-done in the divisional round after securing the NFC's No. 1 seed following a 15-2 regular season. Making matters worse, the Lions surrendered 45 points in the losing effort.
Meanwhile, Glasgow had a disastrous showing in the contest. According to Pro Football Focus, he surrendered nine pressures and one sack, with the nine total pressures being one-fourth of his total amount during the regular season.
Glasgow touched on his performance with Justin Rogers of the Detroit Football Network and admitted that he probably should have come out of the game after suffering an ankle injury.
However, Glasgow tried to fight through it with fellow guard and veteran Kevin Zeitler having been ruled out prior to kickoff.
"In the first quarter of the team’s playoff game against Washington, Glasgow suffered a high ankle sprain," Rogers revealed. "He was obviously in trouble, limping between snaps.
"In hindsight, he admits he should have come out of the game, but with Kevin Zeitler already out with injury, Glasgow put pressure on himself to fight through the pain," Rogers added.
It was a rough year for Glasgow, (the four sacks and 36 pressures given up during the regular season were both the second-most of his career), which led many to wonder if the Lions may cut him, or at the very least make him compete for a starting job.
It looked like that would happen after the Lions drafted Tate Ratledge, who likely would have been involved in a three-man competition for two guard spots, along with Glasgow and second-year guard Christian Mahogany, after Zeitler left for Tennessee in free agency.
However, center Frank Ragnow's retirement has thrown a wrench in that and now the Lions might need Glasgow to step into the center role, where he figures to be the favorite thanks to his experience playing the position.
Ratledge is vying for the role, but he didn't play center at Georgia. The loser of the competition will likely start at the other guard spot opposite Mahogany.
