The Detroit Lions are making a change to their quarterback rotation ahead of their second preseason game versus the Atlanta Falcons on August 8.
According to head coach Dan Campbell, Hendon Hooker will get the start versus the Falcons over Kyle Allen, who started versus the Chargers last week.
Both Allen and Hooker were incredibly underwhelming in the preseason opener. However, giving Hooker the start on Friday against Atlanta is the correct decision, as the Tennessee product still seems to be the leader in the No.2 quarterback battle and didn't get many opportunities versus Los Angeles.
In six pass attempts in the Hall of Fame game, Hooker completed three for 18 yards and an interception, which came at the end of the game when the result was already decided.
The Tennessee product hasn't lived up to expectations as a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but now has a massive chance to showcase his abilities in the second preseason game for the Lions.
After taking on Atlanta, Detroit will host joint practices with the Miami Dolphins before the two teams face off in a preseason game on August 16. The Lions will also have a joint practice with the Houston Texans and wrap up the preseason versus Houston on August 23.
These games will be fantastic opportunities for Hooker to gain reps and separate himself from Allen in the QB2 battle that is still very much up for grabs.
