The Detroit Lions are looking to keep star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson around for the long haul, but it doesn't appear the two sides are very deep into contract talks yet.

Lions general manager Brad Holmes appeared on 97.1 The Ticket on Wednesday and said Detroit hasn't "had really any intense talks yet" with Hutchinson, but said that could change soon.

"Look, we’ll definitely get some dialogue going soon here, but those things take time, especially the larger the deal is," Holmes said.

Holmes added that locking up Hutchinson is "very important," something the team has clearly stated before.

Whenever Hutchinson does get his new contract, it's expected to be massive and could very well reset the market.

According to Over The Cap, the highest-paid edge rusher based annual average is Pittsburgh Steelers star defender T.J. Watt, who is getting $41 million per year.

Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers has the highest total value contract among edge rushers at $170 million.

It'll be interesting to see how soon the Lions get Hutchinson signed.

He still has one more year left on his rookie deal after 2025, so the team still has a lot of time. The Lions may want to see how Hutchinson bounces back from his broken tibia and fibula before backing up the Brinks truck.

Then again, the longer the Lions wait, the more expensive Hutchinson's deal could become if more edge rushers get new deals. Micah Parsons is one to keep an eye on, as his deal with certainly reset the market, which could increase Hutchinson's price.
