Broncos need to stick with Alex Forsyth despite Luke Wattenberg's return

Broncos need to stick with Alex Forsyth despite Luke Wattenberg's return image

The Denver Broncos have chosen to activate Luke Wattenberg from injured reserve but now have to decide what to do with him.

Wattenberg won the team's starting center spot this summer and was in that role for the team's first five games. But he was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury and has missed the team's last four games, the minimum for being on injured reserve. In his place, Alex Forsyth, the former college teammate of Bo Nix, has been the starter.

The Broncos will need to decide which player to go with and then will have to decide if the other is even active for the Week 10 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos had an open roster spot after trading Baron Browning to the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the week, so Wattenberg just slid into that spot.

Alex Forsyth should remain the Broncos' starting center

Wattenberg played well, but Forsyth has filled in nicely. It wasn't like Wattenberg's level of play was head and shoulders above Forsyth's, so the team should not rock the boat right now.

The Broncos are 2-2 with Forsyth in the lineup but the offense has been playing at a much higher level than it did to start the season. Nix and Forsyth teamed up in college so the two are comfortable together and that familiarity is important.

The Broncos have a good fall-back option in Wattenberg, but the decision should be to stick with Forsyth going forward.
