Despite his poor performance against the Los Angeles Rams, the Cowboys announced earlier this week that backup quarterback Joe Milton will start against the Baltimore Ravens Saturday night.

Milton didn’t have a horrible night, but he wasn’t impressive either. He completed less than 60% of his passes (17-for-29) and threw an interception.

He also rushed five times for 22 yards on the night.

With Milton getting his second start, what three things would the Cowboys like to see out of him Saturday night?

Better accuracy

Although Milton is known for having a strong arm, he has had a problem with overthrowing receivers in college and continues to do so now. Milton needs to show the Dallas coaches he can throw an accurate pass, whether it be short or a long ball.

No turnovers

Although turnovers are expected during the pre-season, bad interceptions because of overthrows and throwing into double and triple coverage are unacceptable at this level. Milton has been in the league for the last few years and should know better.

Better control of the offense

With Dak Prescott having to deal with several injuries throughout his career, it’s important to see that Joe Milton understands how to run this offense if Prescott is out again. Players and coaches have to see that he knows how to take control of this offense and can be the leader they will need in case Prescott is hurt again, and it starts Saturday night.

If Milton is unable to prove he can do any of these things not only in this game but for the rest of the preseason, the Cowboys may need to start seeking another backup for Dak Prescott. Milton was brought in because of his potential, and he needs to show that potential if he wants to keep his job.
