The Dallas Cowboys have had a relatively quiet offseason, but that could change quickly during the NFL Draft. The Cowboys have the 12th overall pick and could be fielding calls.
The Dallas Cowboys need two big pieces to really make their offense elite. They need a reliable, explosive pass catcher to pair with CeeDee Lamb and a playmaking player in their backfield. USA Today's K.D. Drummond predicted the Cowboys would make this trade with the Detroit Lions to fill both needs:
- Cowboys receive: 28th overall pick and wide receiver Jameson Williams
- Lions receive: 12th overall pick and 149th overall pick
Williams broke out last season following an ACL tear, PED suspension and gambling suspension to start his career. The Lions could be willing to trade him to move up in the draft. He is going into the final year of his deal, but he has a fifth-year option available. His trade value is higher than ever, and the Lions could look to capitalize.
"Williams, the 2022 No. 12 overall pick, finally got things together in 2024," wrote Drummond. "He had his first 1,000-yard receiving season, hauling in seven touchdowns on 58 receptions, averaging over 17 yards a catch. He's not without warts, which is why the Lions might be interested in using him to improve their draft stock. An ACL injury sustained in college wiped out most of his rookie season, and he's been suspended both for gambling and PEDs. But all that came before his breakout season. He's absolutely the deep threat the Cowboys offense craves to place opposite CeeDee Lamb."

Williams would instantly fill the Cowboys' need at receiver, and the 28th pick would be a perfect spot to add an electric running back. Drummond predicted the Cowboys would select Omarion Hampton at No.28.
"One of the Cowboys' 30 national visits," wrote Drummond. "A pure old-school bully when he has the ball in his hands. He's a bell cow back who never goes down on first contact and has the agility to break big gains when he gets past the second line of the defense."
In each of the last two seasons, Hampton has led the ACC in rushing yards. Last season he had over 2,000 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns. He has scored 33 touchdowns in the last two seasons. Last season the Cowboys had the sixth-fewest rushing yards in the league. Adding Hampton would give them a new weapon in the backfield.
This trade would set the Cowboys' offense up for a resurgent year with Dak Prescott back and healthy.
