As the Cleveland Browns wrapped up the first partial week of training camp, it was no surprise that the quarterback situation remained the focus of media attention.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, the talk shifted Friday to a hamstring injury suffered by Kenny Pickett near the end of practice. With only four days of veteran practices completed and pads not yet on, it’s too early to draw conclusions from snap counts or reps. Still, Pickett had strung together two strong practices and appeared to be building momentum in his push to start Week 1.

The Browns open the preseason on Aug. 8 against the Carolina Panthers. Pickett is expected to be re-evaluated at the end of the week, leaving questions about his availability in the near term.

One thing is clear: Joe Flacco, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel will see more reps in the meantime, and the added opportunities could make the competition at quarterback even more intriguing.
