For the second straight week, a Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback made their preseason debut. Last week, Shedeur Sanders threw two touchdown passes against the Carolina Panthers. This week, Dillon Gabirel got his shot.
Gabriel played largely well, going 13-of-18 for 143 yards and led the Browns on a touchdown-scoring drive to open the game. He did, however, throw a bad pick-six to Eagles safety Andrew Mukuba. The Browns defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 22-13, but it was the comments that Gabriel made after his day was officially over that has many talking.
"There's entertainers, and there's competitors," Gabriel said. I totally understand that. My job is to compete."
Many took that to be a shot at Sanders, who is much more of a celebrity than any fifth-round pick in NFL history.
We'll see how the reps get divided over the next week ahead of the team's final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, as well as who will be the starting quarterback in Week 1.
