The Cleveland Browns started this camp with four quarterbacks fighting for one starting spot, which was always going to be a challenge.  With three young contenders in Kenny Pickett, Dillion Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders paired with one veteran, Joe Flacco, there was a question about how all four guys could get enough reps to be properly evaluated.

But instead of being challenged on getting everyone reps, the Browns instead had to sign Tyler Huntley just to have another arm in practice because of injuries.  All three young arms at camp have missed time, and things didn’t change on Wednesday when the team announced after practice that Sanders was held out of team drills because of an oblique injury suffered early in the day.

Pickett was already held out of team drills as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury, which left Flacco with most first-team reps and Gabriel with the second team.  Huntley did get a few snaps as well, as he does need to be prepared to play on Saturday with Pickett and Sanders’ availability now in question.

Gabriel said after practice that his hamstring felt better and he believes he can start Saturday if called on.  It would be tough to force him on the field in the preseason if not healthy, but if Pickett and Sanders aren’t available, and Flacco will get rest, Kevin Stefanski could be in a situation where Huntley is the only healthy quarterback on the roster.
