We've seen plenty of updates in regard to the contract standoff between Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals. Sadly, none have been positive.

The latest update comes from ESPN's Adam Schefter, who notes that the two sides are talking again, which is good news. The bad news is, they aren't any closer to a deal.

"The Bengals and Trey Hendrickson are talking again but they're not any further along," Schefter told Pat McAfee. "I think there's a disagreement over value and there's also a disagreement over the length of the deal."

"They can't even find common ground on the length of the deal," the ESPN insider added.

Just when there was a shred of positivity, Schefter ripped it right out from under us. I guess we shouldn't be surprised after an offseason filled with Hendrickson voicing his displeasure with the process.

When it comes to the Bengals' desire in terms of the length of a Hendrickson extension, Schefter adds that Cincy is probably looking for a one-year deal.

"I think that the Bengals would like a low deal, like one year," Schefter revealed.

According to reports, we also know the Bengals want to pay Hendrickson somewhere around $28 million annually, which is far too low for an elite edge rusher like Hendrickson, at least as it compares to today's edge rusher market.

So, the Bengals are offering less than what Hendrickson wants, and likely less years than he wants, also.

If there was ever a relationship primed for a break-up, it's this one.
