Bears rookie WR Luther Burden gets bad injury update at training camp image

The Chicago Bears are heading toward an exciting season, the second year with QB Caleb Williams and now under a new head coach and offensive mastermind, Ben Johnson.

They aren't quit eat full strength early in training camp, though.

Second-round rookie WR Luther Burden is out with a soft-tissue injury.

"Head coach Ben Johnson told reporters on Thursday morning that receiver Luther Burden is still dealing with a soft-tissue injury that has lingered from the offseason program and will not practice," writes Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons. "But Johnson added he’s hopeful that Burden will be sidelined for just a few days."

The Bears would love to see Burden back shortly, because he's full of potential and this next month-plus will be crucial for getting him up to NFL speed.

Burden was the No. 1 wide receiver in his 2022 high school recruiting class before committing to Mizzou. Burden's best Missouri season was actually his sophomore year. He went for 86 catches, 1,212 yards and seven TDs. In 2024, he had 61 catches for 676 yards and six scores.

He's explosive after the catch and can be a big boost for Williams, Johnson and the rest of the Bears' offense, assuming he can get healthy and stay that way.
