Keenan Allen is still lingering out there in free agency.

It's a bit weird, given that Allen is still an effective NFL receiver. He's a security blanket kind of guy at this point, one who would make great sense to pair with a younger QB after his work with Caleb Williams and the Bears in 2024.

There's no clear end in sight to Allen's free agency yet, but the Chargers legend might have something working in his favor.

June 1 is a key date in the NFL. Teams can release players with more friendly salary cap implications once the calendar turns to June.

And if teams can get rid of guys they don't want any more and free up money, it creates space to sign some of the veterans still out in the pool.

Allen is one of the top options.

He's been linked lately to the Falcons, where Michael Penix Jr. is entering his second year and could benefit from the possession wideout.

There are plenty of other teams out there in similar spots. We're looking at you, New Orleans.

Allen could choose to wait longer and get a bit of summer to himself, but it seems more likely he'd want to build a rapport with his new quarterback.

There's only so much football left to be played in Allen's stellar NFL career, so why would he want to miss out on the chance to get back on the field? Thankfully, his chance may come soon.
