The Buffalo Bills have been universally praised for their offseason thus far. They have extended several home-grown stars on four-year extensions, including Khalil Shakir, Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard, and Christian Benford. On top of that, they gave Josh Allen a six-year, $330 million extension.
Externally, the Bills made a big splash by signing edge rusher Joey Bosa to be their potential game-wrecker off the edge. The Bills also added Michael Hoecht, Larry Ogunjobi, Josh Palmer, and brought back cornerbacks Tre'Davious White and Dane Jackson. While Buffalo has largely been named as a team with one of the best offseasons thus far, Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report gave them a grade of just C+.
"The Bills added a pair of players from the Los Angeles Chargers who haven’t really met expectations in recent years—veteran Joey Bosa was added to bolster Buffalo’s pass rush, while wide receiver Josh Palmer got a surprising $12 million a season to offset the loss of Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper," Sobleski writes. "There weren’t many departures of note in western New York, and one was Buffalo’s idea—after three disappointing seasons with the Bills, cornerback Kaiir Elam was shipped to the Dallas Cowboys for a pair of Day 3 picks. The Bills remain a very dangerous team. But they aren’t markedly better in April than they were in February."
While the Bills have lost a few key players, most notably Mack Hollins, keeping all of their top stars on the roster long-term is a big win and one would think that warrants a grade higher than the one they were given.
