Just one month after signing him, a veteran Buffalo Bills defender could be on the chopping block.
Buffalo signed linebacker Shaq Thompson to a one-year, $1.25 million deal in June, but Ryan Talbot of Syracuse.com believes he won't make the 53-man roster.
"Shaq Thompson has ties to Sean McDermott, but I can’t justify a roster spot for him at this point. The veteran has missed most of the past two seasons and will have to stay healthy to have any shot of making the initial 53-man roster," Talbot wrote.
Based off that, Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports named a few possible spots where Thompson could land and the Baltimore Ravens, who will be competing for a Super Bowl against the Bills in the AFC, were one of them.
The Ravens can’t ignore upgrading the defense since it hasn’t been the same since they lost Clowney and Patrick Queen. It will only get worse before it gets better in the AFC, and the Ravens could pull off a one-year deal at best to put themselves in the driver’s seat of at least having a ferocious defense.
Thompson has played in just six games over the past two seasons and his small contract means the Bills aren't married to him.
The Ravens have a question mark at linebacker next to Roquan Smith, so Thompson could end up being on their radar if he's cut loose.
Trenton Simpson has been disappointing early in his career and there's no telling what fourth-round rookie Teddye Buchanan will offer in Year 1.
Thompson is no sure thing to be a solution in Baltimore if brought aboard, but he'd at least give the Ravens another option.
