The Tennessee Volunteers have faced significant concerns with someone in the locker room over the past few weeks. At the center of the discussion is sophomore Boo Carter, who has reportedly skipped numerous team activities—something that hasn’t sat well with many inside the program.

“Tennessee sophomore defensive back Boo Carter is expected to be one of the Volunteers' best players in 2025 on defense, offense and special teams, but his status with the team is unclear as we inch closer to August. Carter has missed ‘numerous’ team activities and was even confronted by team leaders because of his absences, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel,” CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani reported.

Adding to the drama, Carter has reportedly parted ways with his former agent and brought on new representation. The entire situation has been confusing, with head coach Josh Heupel expected to address the matter on Tuesday. However, ESPN’s Chris Low broke the news earlier that afternoon.

“Lotta speculation about the future of Tennessee DB Boo Carter the last two weeks after he missed multiple workouts, but sources tell ESPN that Carter is not being dismissed from the team. Coach Josh Heupel will address the situation at his press conference later Tuesday,” Low wrote.

While Carter remaining with the team is good news for the Vols on the field, the locker room dynamic may be a different story. For Carter, this won’t be an easy camp—there will be consequences.

“If he reports to that meeting tonight (UT is supposed to have a pre-fall camp team meeting on Monday evening), he's going to be in a different reality, I can tell you that," said Vols insider Tony Basilio. "I'm hearing they're going to make this kid earn his way back onto that team, if that's what he wants to do. In other words, he's going to lose some privileges here on the front end (of fall camp)."

Carter is undoubtedly a talented athlete, but his youth and inexperience have shown at times. While his presence on the field is a clear advantage, regaining the trust of his teammates won't come easily. Now, he must prove he’s fully committed to wearing the orange and white.
