Grayson (Georgia) five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson is a true modern defensive weapon.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound 'backer can pursue ball-carriers sideline-to-sideline, rush the quarterback or even drop back into coverage when asked.
As a junior, Atkinson put all of those skills to use, racking up 166 tackles, 48 quarterback hits, 32 tackles-for-loss, 13 sacks and an interception.
Those staggering numbers led to him being named MaxPreps National Junior of the Year.
Unsurprisingly, his recruitment has flourished, as the Georgia product has racked up 50 scholarship offers.
But as the summer progresses, Atkinson is growing close to a decision.
On Wednesday, he announced he was trimming his list to a final four of Clemson, Georgia, Oregon and Texas - and implied a decision could be looming.
"Wherever home
is, we're about to be #AtkNup real soon," he wrote.
That "AtkNup" moniker has become Atkinson's branding, and is a staple of his social media posts.
Where is the versatile defender headed?
That's a difficult question to answer.
Obviously, Georgia will be a strong contender given that they are a perennial national title contender, a regular producer of NFL talent and the in-state program.
The Bulldogs are viewed as the favorites, but Atkinson has kept his recruitment close to the vest - and Clemson, Oregon and Texas can't be ruled out.
