The New York Giants signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson this offseason; however, they were particularly impressed with what they saw in Jaxson Dart. The meetings with Dart went so well that the team decided to trade up in the draft to ensure they could land the Ole Miss quarterback. Dart is viewed as a developmental prospect heading into his rookie NFL season.

“So again, Jaxson's going to come in, he's got to learn the offense, there's a lot to learn, these NFL offenses are hard to grasp and pick up and then be able to go out and execute, so the ability for him to learn and sit behind two consummate pros already will be beneficial for him,” Joe Schoen said.

Abdul Carter, the Giants' other first-round pick, is expected to make an immediate impact. His biggest challenge so far has been finding a jersey number.

“D**n at this point imma be out there with just my last name on my jersey, no number. Jkjk, It’s all Love. Just wanna play Football,” Carter wrote.

Now, there are rumors that Dart could take over as early as November in his rookie season—a move that would deviate significantly from the original plan for the Ole Miss product. Such a decision would undoubtedly raise eyebrows, especially with two veteran quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart. Chris Simms, however, believes the Giants may not wait that long. He wouldn’t be surprised if Dart started Week 1.

“I would not be shocked if it started off right away. I wouldn’t be shocked…The amount of money they’re paying Russell Wilson does not guarantee him the starting quarterback job, right? I don’t think they’ll be scared to start Jaxson Dart here…This is why they like him,” Simms said.

Head coach Brian Daboll has already built a strong relationship with Dart, and since their pre-draft meeting, Daboll has believed that Dart is the team’s quarterback of the future.
