The Michigan Wolverines are going all-in on Bryce Underwood as the future of their program.
He’s not just arriving in Ann Arbor as a true freshman — he’s doing so as the No. 1 recruit in the nation, carrying the weight of major expectations. That pressure only intensifies when you factor in the massive NIL deal Underwood signed — one of the largest multi-year agreements in college football history.
But if you ask those who’ve spent time around him, Underwood is more than ready for the moment.
One of those voices is former Michigan quarterback Jack Tuttle, who spent the last two seasons in Ann Arbor and briefly joined the Wolverines’ coaching staff before stepping away this offseason to pursue a career in sports media.
Even with limited time around Underwood, Tuttle came away thoroughly impressed.
“I’ve seen Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields — that was my class,” Tuttle said. “I’ve seen a lot of good football throwers, and I’ve been with Mike Penix at Indiana, obviously J.J. McCarthy here at Michigan. And I would say Bryce is right at the top with the best of them, and probably throws it better than a lot of those guys — which is scary to say.”

Tuttle’s praise adds to the growing attention around Underwood, who enrolled early and has been part of Michigan’s offseason workouts. The program has shared clips of him throwing during drills, showing off the arm talent that made him a top national recruit.
Underwood’s competing with Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene, who came in back in December with starting experience under his belt. Both quarterbacks have been active throughout the summer as the team gets ready for fall camp.
Underwood hasn’t played a snap yet — but people around the program have definitely taken notice.
